Teachers - Special Education

 

We are seeking several teachers who have an interest in working alongside students with unique learning needs. 

Our preferred applicants are experienced in teaching students with special educational needs or are teachers with a passion to work in special education who wish to join a vibrant and dedicated team.

Our learners range in age from 5–21 years of age and are situated at either our base school site in Glenfield, one of our many satellite classes on the wider North Shore.

Successful applicants must be NZ registered teachers with current practising certificates along with current and valid working visas.

Occupational Therapist

Full-time, permanent position

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position. Hours of work could be negotiable.  

The position involves working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with neuro-diverse students aged from 5–21, including physical, sensory and complex needs.

Paediatric experience would be essential for the role.

NDT/Bobath training and Sensory Integration (SI) training would be desirable.  

A NZ full driver’s licence is preferred as our school has classes on a number of sites around Auckland’s North Shore and the Hibiscus Coast.

Speech Language Therapist

Full-time, permanent position

We seek a Speech Language Therapist with a passion for working with children and young adults with special needs. This position is suitable for an experienced SLT with current NZSTA membership. 

We cater for students aged 5 to 21 years and operate across multiple sites. Our students have a wide range of needs including a large majority with a diagnosis of Autism and others with complex, physical needs. 

We have a Base school with 16 classes, 24 satellite units in mainstream schools and transition units. Travelling between sites is a key part of this role and you will be responsible for your own transport (driving a personal car with a mileage reimbursement provided is preferred). 

We have a large therapy team including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech Language Therapists. 

This role is varied and involves providing students with communication strategies, plans and tools in order to maximise their ability to participate, communicate and learn across their day. Students will be provided with opportunities that promote social inclusion and facilitate smooth transition to life-long learning. This is through provision of a specialist service that is collaborative, responsive to the needs of the students, family, whanau and upholds the principles of partnerships.

Remuneration is based on the Ministry of Education’s Kaiārahi i te Reo and Therapists' Collective Agreement. Salaries will be translated onto the new pay equity rates in October 2024.

Students at Wairau Valley Special School are aged between 5 - 21 years with a range of disabilities including, Autism, GDD, physical disabilities or behavioural needs.

Our school is multi-sited and you may be needed to work at our base school in Hillside Road, Glenfield or at one of our satellite classes that are based in a host school on the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast.

We have a strong induction programme and on the job training will be provided.
